Second Guest Speaker at 7:00 pm:
Lee Simonson is the author of Tuscarora Heroes, a book about the War of 1812 British attack on the Niagara Frontier on December 19, 1813. Local citizens were killed in the attack and could only run for their lives. At the moment when the white settlers lost hope and thought they would all become victims of a bloody massacre, the local Tuscarora natives ran into the fight and stopped the attack long enough for dozens of citizens to escape down Ridge Road, toward Lockport, Orleans County, Batavia.
Lee is the volunteer director for Lewiston's 1812 Bicentennial and
the director of the Tuscarora Heroes Monument project which will
be unveiled on December 19, 2013, the 200th anniversary of the
attack. He is past president of the Historical Association of Lewiston and retired from local politics in 2005 after serving 32 years as Lewiston's county legislator. He owns two small businesses.
